TTO - Mùa mưa đến, những tay thợ săn lão luyện ở Hương Quang, Hương Điền, Hương Đại (huyện Vũ Quang, Hà Tĩnh) bắt đầu hành quân vào rừng sâu săn bắn, đặt bẫy thú rừng. Voọc ở vườn quốc gia Vũ Quang (một loài linh trưởng nằm trong sách đỏ) là loài động vật thợ săn rất “khát”.

Rất nhiều thợ săn nói nhờ bộ lông sấy khô chưng tủ kính, bộ xương nấu cao nên loài động vật này bán rất được giá.

Những ngày này đến Hương Quang, Hương Điền đặt mua một con voọc không khó mấy. Chỉ cần gặp một tay thợ săn, đặt cọc trước 200.000-300.000 đồng thì khi bắn được voọc sẽ được thông báo ngay lập tức.

Ai sẽ cứu những con voọc bị săn bắn và bị làm thịt lấy lông, lấy xương ở Hương Quang?...

TTO - Sylvio Lamarche, sinh năm 1956, người Canada. Năm 2000 anh bán nông trại được thừa hưởng ở Canada, đến mua lô đất sát biển rộng trên 10.000m2 dưới chân núi Hòn Hèo thuộc thôn Ninh Tịnh, xã Ninh Phước, huyện Ninh Hòa, Khánh Hòa làm du lịch với tên gọi: Jungle Beach.

Cũng từ ngày đó, anh trở thành "cứu tinh" bảo vệ đàn thú trên dãy núi kia. Anh ngăn cản những người săn bắt, theo dõi và bảo vệ chúng. Đặc biệt, ở đây có một đàn voọc từ 110 con đến nay đã phát triển lên 150 con.

Năm 2007, anh gửi tài liệu, hình ảnh chụp và theo dõi được cho ông Tilo Nadler, chuyên gia người Đức, giám đốc Trung tâm cứu hộ thú linh trưởng (Hội động vật Frankfurt), vườn quốc gia Cúc Phương.

Những chuyên gia đã đến cùng anh, ở nhiều ngày, khảo sát và cho kết luận: “Loài thú này chính là voọc chà vá chân đen (Pygathrix nigripes), nằm trong danh mục 1 - động vật rừng nguy cấp, quý hiếm có ít nhất 110 cá thể”.

Voọc mũi hếch là một trong năm loài linh trưởng của Việt Nam có nguy cơ tuyệt chủng cao nhất trên thế giới, cùng với voọc đầu vàng, voọc mông trắng, chà vá chân xám và vượn đen Đông Bắc.

ThienNhien.Net – Ngày 26/08/2009, Chủ tịch UBND tỉnh Hà Giang đã ký quyết định số 3115/QD-UBND thành lập khu bảo tồn loài và sinh cảnh để bảo vệ voọc mũi hếch. Voọc mũi hếch (Rhinopithecus avunculus) là một trong bốn loài linh trưởng đặc hữu của Việt Nam, cũng là một trong 25 loài linh trưởng bị đe dọa cao nhất trên thế giới hiện nay, đang trong tình trạng cực kỳ nguy cấp.

Voọc mũi hếch có kích thước lớn nhất và chiếc đuôi dài nhất trong số các loài linh trưởng ở Việt Nam. Một số chuyên gia cho biết số lượng của chúng trong tự nhiên còn lại không nhiều, có thể dưới 200 cá thể                  -ThienNhien.Net

Voọc mũi hếch có phân bố hẹp, cho đến nay, mới được các nhà khoa học ghi nhận ở một vài khu vực thuộc vùng núi phía Bắc nước ta như khu bảo tồn Nà Hang, Chạm Chu của tỉnh Tuyên Quang và các huyện Khau Ca, Tùng Vai của tỉnh Hà Giang.


Khu bảo tồn mới được thành lập để bảo tồn loài này có diện tích khoảng 2.000 ha, thuộc ba xã Tùng Bá (huyện Vị Xuyên), Yên Định và Minh Sơn (huyện Bắc Mê), thuộc tỉnh Hà Giang. Đây là một trong những nơi còn lưu giữ được quần thể voọc mũi hếch lớn nhất và có khả năng tồn tại cao nhất hiện nay.

Kết quả điều tra cơ bản đã ghi nhận 471 loài thực vật có mạch, 26 loài thú, 99 loài chim và khoảng 20 loài lưỡng cư, bò sát cho khu bảo tồn. Trong số này có nhiều loài đang có nguy cơ bị tuyệt chủng như dẻ tùng sọc trắng (Amentotaxus argotaenia),  các loài lan hài Paphiopedilum henryanum,  P.  Malipoense và P. Micranthum, khỉ mặt đỏ (Macaca arctoides), khỉ mốc(M. assamensis), cu li lớn (Nyctecebus bengalensis), cu li nhỏ (N. pygmaeus), gà tiền gà lôi trắng (Lophura nycthemera), rắn lục sừng (Trimeresurus cornutus), v.v.

The Primate Conservation Status Review, Vietnam 2000 contains alarming findings for the fate of Vietnam's primates. At the beginning of the new millennium, among the many species that could be lost world-wide are mankind's closest relatives, the nonhuman primates. In Vietnam, many primates are either endangered or critically endangered. Three of the four species that are endemic to Vietnam are critically endangered: golden-headed langur Trachypithecus poliocephalus, Delacour’s langur T.
delacouri, Tonkin snub-nosed Monkey Rhinopithecus avunculus whilst the grey-shanked douc langur Pygathrix nemaeus is data deficient and may well be critically endangered in reality. These four primates are among the most endangered primates on earth. Without rigorous and immediate conservation interventions, these species are facing global extinction. Other primates, such as Western black-crested gibbons Nomascus concolor, are also facing extinction in Vietnam.

Primate Community Dynamics in Old Growth Forest over 23.5 Years at Ngogo, Kibale National Park, Uganda

Few data exist regarding long-term changes in primate populations in oldgrowth, tropical forests. In the absence of this information, it is unclear how to assess population trends efficiently and economically. We addressed these problems by conducting line-transect censuses 23.5 years apart at the Ngogo study area in Kibale National Park, Uganda. We conducted additional censuses over short time intervals to determine the degree to which the temporal distribution of censuses affected estimates of primate numbers. Results indicate that two species, blue monkeys and red colobus, may have experienced
significant reductions over the past 23.5 years at Ngogo. In contrast, five other species, baboons, black-and-white colobus, chimpanzees, mangabeys, and red-tailed guenons, have not changed in relative abundance. Additional findings indicate that different observers may vary significantly in their estimates of sighting distances of animals during censuses, thus rendering the use of measures of absolute densities problematic. Moreover, censuses conducted over short periods produce biased estimates of primate numbers. These results provide guidelines for the use of line-transect censuses and underscore the
importance of protecting large blocks of forests for primate conservation.

Population Sizes and Distribution of Primates in the Lower Tana River Forests, Kenya

The critically endangered Tana River red colobus (Procolobus rufomitratus Peters, 1879) and the endangered crested mangabey (Cercocebus galeritus galeritus Peters, 1879) are endemic to forest patches along the lower Tana River, Kenya(IUCN, 2000; Marsh, 1976, 1978a). The need to conserve them and their unique habitat led to the creation of the 171-km2Tana River Primate National Reserve (TRPNR) in 1976 (Marsh, 1976; Seal et al., 1991).
